<image:caption>Mixed media on wood panel, 2012 (two 8” x 8” panels) Finding time to make art is hard to do when you have to go to work, do the dishes or take care of children... It concerns me that as a collective we probably have a "daydream deficit" that accumulates the more we preoccupy ourselves with making a living. For the lower classes, this deficit is especially felt. A full time employee of a low paying job, having endured a likely fraught, abusive shift, doesn't have much mental bandwidth left at the end of the day for reverie, other than what can be conveniently (brainlessly) accessed through Netflix.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Galleries - Plaza of Nations 1</image:title>
<image:caption>Acrylic and ink on wood panel (36” x 48”) A lot of the art I make is informed by my experiences working warehouse and service jobs. I like to use found materials from my job sites in creative ways to counteract the occasional doldrums inherent in these environments. I refer to it lightly as a ‘work of play’. “World Class” is a collection of uneasy texts found in scrambled corporate slogans and discarded retail signage I obtained from my last job at a department store. When hackneyed sentences like “be customer obsessed”, etc were rearranged, ambiguously voiced discontents concerning globalization, politics and class came out, often in crude and spooky ways. To mirror the feebly ambitious qualities of the corporate jargon we chanted at store rallies, I decided to set the show of words amongst the ruins of Expo ‘86 at the Plaza of Nations as a critique of Vancouver’s use of dubious ‘fairground attractions’ like FIFA (or the Olympics, or my workplace) to seek global validation.</image:caption>
